Its now official. CompUSA has pulled out of the retail store business game. But are they a whole new business now that they are online only? The answer is no. Ever since the System Max acquisition of CompUSA, The only thing new to CompUSA is a site face lift... Wait.. haven't I seen that site layout before? The new CompUSA is nothing more then a TigerDirect.com with the CompUSA label slapped onto it. So there you have it. CompUSA once again does nothing to surprise us

So what were you expecting? Did you want a Phoenix to fly out of the ashes of CompUSA?
I'm sorry, it's Monday. I did remember reading that TigerDirect was going to keep a few store fronts open but only in Florida I believe.

I've known this was coming for quite a while and am not surprised but am very sad for all the people who are now unemployed. Maybe the online facade will improve things but I'm not confident. CompUSA has been trying to find a way to stay in the black for years and has floundered because of poor executive decisions and management.
Sadly, my brother was a victim of CompUSA closing their retail stores. He started working for them as a part time sales person back in the early 1990's. He was in the right place at the right time and moved into the position of technology buyer...a really sweet position. From there he took the position of rescuing stores that were not doing well and making them profitable and then stepped into the role of general manager. He had just moved into the position of store auditor just before the California stores closed. Even as the newest auditor, his position was saved. Well, with this latest move of CompUSA little bro is back in the job market after 15+ years with the same company. Thankfully he received a decent severance package and he's money savvy so things are not dire. I'm just sad because he worked so hard. It always seemed like he was left to bail out a ship that was taking on water with a teaspoon. I know he'll be fine and the next company that gets him will be incredibly lucky. He's personable, smart, knowledgeable, takes care of the people who work for him and the people he works for and has the work ethic of my father's generation. He works hard and is incredibly positive.
